My almost adventure :)

Ok now, I TOTALLY planned on taking the taxi to the orphanage and the matrushka back to the hotel, but then I met Alexander :)
Oh man, what a sweetie!! He was so happy that I was a friend of Yuli and Victor (Jodi and Rich) that we talked and talked. He found it extremely funny that I knew a little bit of Russian and decided he needed to teach me as much as he could :) Then he would say stuff in Russian and ask me how to say it in English. Oh man what a riot!! I couldn't quite explain why I could not visit today, so I just told him Sveta was sick. He will be here tomorrow morning at 10 to take me to the orphanage.
The lady at the front desk asked me to please take the taxi not the matrushka :(
Besides we are so close to the orphanage that it is only 20 hua, which is about $2.50 each way! I just can't argue with that!! Besides if I want to go to the store he will take me :)
Jodi - you were right he is a sweetie!! What a find!
The other family here is also using him, it is so nice to have someone dependable that knows where you are going!!!

PS-for those asking about the blankets on the train, they were not wrapped in plastic!

Great picture and glad to see what Alexander looks like!!! We had also heard that taking the matrushka was a big "no-no". :)

Glad to see you have made some friends and one is a driver you can depend on. $2.50 for a taxi ride amazing! We were not allowed to ride any public transit on our first trip and didn't need to on our second. I will never even ride on a Greyhound here again after a trip years ago. :-}

Hey, $2.50 is AMAZING for a taxi ride. In NYC $2.50 will get you into the cab. that's it. and it's cheaper than a subway fare here! (yeah, I live in a really expensive city. probably not a great example haha)
